TLCC News Summary 2007

December Holiday Party — The TLCC's December 4 monthly meeting continued the tradition of a holiday party catered by TLCC members Bonnie and Mike Zagorin. The food was excellent! Season's Greetings, and we'll see you again at our meetings and coin shows in 2008!

Special thanks to Dan Duncan from Pinnacle Rarities for presenting an interesting program at the November 6 TLCC meeting on "Market Conditions." Come to our monthly meetings and see what you're missing!

Coin Show! TACOMA-LAKEWOOD COIN CLUB 38TH SEMI-ANNUAL SHOW – The TLCC's 38th Semi-Annual Coin Show was held October 27-28, 2007 at the King Oscar Convention Center in South Tacoma.

Special thanks to Steve Campau from the Renton Coin Shop for presenting an excellent program at the October 2 TLCC meeting on "Grading Circulated U.S. Coins."

Congratulations, Rick! Congratulations to TLCC newsletter editor Rick Schultz, who has now received both PNNA and ANA awards! Rick received a PNNA Presidential Award, the first ever awarded, at the PNNA Annual Convention in Tukwila, April 13-15, 2007. Rick and the TLCC also received the ANA's outstanding club publication award in the e-newsletter category. Rick accepted this award at the ANA anniversary convention in Milwaukee. Why not join the TLCC and see what you're missing? The September 4 meeting featured reports from the ANA convention.

Summer Meetings – This year the TLCC's summer meetings were on different dates than usual. First, we had the "August" regular meeting a week early on July 31. Photo: Dick Cowley speaks to us about "Coin Glass" at the July 31 meeting. See more photos of display items from this meeting. Then, we had a business meeting followed by the annual summer social on August 21.

April is Big (and No Fooling)!! – See the PNNA website for details. There were several important events, including the Washington State Quarter release ceremony, the PNNA convention in Tukwila, and National Coin Week. These events are now over; we had a good time!

Annual Grant Recipients – Applications for a TLCC grant to help pay for the expense of attending the ANA summer convention or another numismatic event were due by the April 17 business meeting. Congratulations to 2007 grant recipients Ken Fialkowski, Norm Mikat and Steve Roggow.

Coin Show/Banquet! TACOMA-LAKEWOOD COIN CLUB 37TH SEMI-ANNUAL SHOW – The TLCC's 37th Semi-Annual Coin Show was held March 10-11, 2007 at the King Oscar Convention Center in South Tacoma. The club's 50th anniversary banquet was also held the evening of March 10 at the Tacoma Elks Lodge. Photo: TCC/LCCC/TLCC presidents (present and past) at the banquet.

George Washington! – Eric Holcomb presented an illustrated talk at the March 6, 2007 club meeting on the topic of “Numismatic Washingtonia.” Once again, the meeting was well-attended!

British History / English Hammered Coins! – Mike Zagorin presented an illustrated talk at the February 6 club meeting on the topic of “A Walk Through British History: Part I, from the Roman empire in Britain until 1660.” During this time period, coins were hand-hammered rather than struck using machines. This was a very interesting talk; we hope you didn't miss it; the meeting was well-attended! Photo (left): Henry VIII groat.

Happy New Year from the TLCC! Our first 2007 meeting was early, on the evening of January 2. Thanks to Ken Fialkowski for giving an interesting talk on paper money!

TLCC 50th Anniversary Celebration (1957-2007) – The TLCC commemorated its 50th anniversary with a medal produced by the Northwest Territorial Mint using the design shown here. We minted 100 serially numbered silver/bronze prooflike medal sets, plus 100 unnumbered bronze medals with an antique finish. See actual medal photographs on page 21 of the club's memorabilia catalog.
