Welcome to the TLCC!

The Tacoma-Lakewood Coin Club (TLCC) is a vibrant local coin club serving the South Puget Sound region, including the cities of Tacoma and Lakewood. The TLCC was founded in 1988 by the merger of the former Tacoma Coin Club and the former Lakewood Center Coin Club. The TLCC welcomes all numismatists — persons who study, collect, or deal with coins, paper money, tokens and medals.

The TLCC is proud to present, our home on the World Wide Web! This site is updated at least monthly to bring you accurate and up-to-date information about numismatics in the Tacoma area. TLCC members are also available to help answer your questions about numismatics. Please don't hesitate to ask us a question or to contribute information for possible use on this site!

Recent Meeting Programs:

The May 16, 2024 meeting at the American Legion featured Jay D., finishing his presentation on Hobo Nickels. There was a lot of interest in this subject back in February (see below). Hopefully he brought some nickels to sell.

The April 18, 2024 meeting at the American Legion (hopefully) featured Tom Sparks' delayed talk via Zoom.

The March 21, 2024 meeting at the American Legion was originally scheduled to have Tom Sparks of the Short Snorter Project, who was scheduled to particpate online via Zoom. However, Tom's talk has been rescheduled for the April 18, 2024 meeting. (The March meeting turned into an extended show and tell.)

At the February 15, 2024 meeting at the American Legion, Jay D. spoke about "Hobo Nickels and coins."

At the January 18, 2024 meeting at the American Legion, Grant T. gave a talk relating to "The basics of ancient coin making."

The December 21, 2023 meeting at the American Legion Post #2 was the annual holiday party/dinner.

At the November 16, 2023 meeting at the American Legion, Ken F. spoke about "Confederate Currency and its place in the Civil War." This was reportedly a great talk with great attendance!

At the October 19, 2023 meeting at the American Legion, Todd spoke about the American Banknote Company (ABNC) and their colorful and rich history.

At the September 21, 2023 meeting at the American Legion, according to Todd, "We did a 'guess that flag' and talked about the BSA merit badge test for coin collecting." In addition, the meeting likely featured a brief report on the successful coin show held the previous Saturday (September 16). Reportedly, "the dealers had a great time in a bigger venue [at the AMVETS Post #1]."

At the August 17, 2023 meeting at the American Legion, Mike and Barbara Patton were the guest speakers. Mike had a very interesting regional history lesson for us, and Barbara did a short talk about what she “LOVES” to collect.

A private BBQ dinner for club members and guests was held on Saturday, July 29, 2023.

At the June 15, 2023 club neeting at the American Legion, Todd spoke about his visit to North Carolina, tour of the USS North Carolina, and visit to Fort Fisher. The show-and-tell did not have a specific theme or topic.

Sample exhibit items from TLCC regular meetings.
These are items members bring each month for "show & tell." Although photography of selected items unfortunately ended after Jan. 2015, many excellent numsimatic items from the 2002-2015 time period are available to view. In addition, some "virtual show & tell" items from 2020-21 are available.

TLCC Club Information / Events

What is our charter? — Per the TLCC bylaws, Article II, Section 1, "The purpose of this club is to promote interest in numismatics, through a sound program of education and fellowship, as a non-profit association." In doing so, the TLCC contributes to the mission of the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association (PNNA) to "promote, extend, and protect the interests of numismatists and numismatic activities throughout the Pacific Northwest and to foster and encourage the study of numismatics in all its forms."

What do we do? — In addition to maintaining this web site, the TLCC sends a monthly email notice to members, has monthly meetings, holds two annual coin shows, and promotes numismatics through special programs, activities and awards. TLCC members participate in the numismatic display at the Washington State (Puyallup) Fair Hobby Hall each September.
